Regularizations, Anomalies and Fermion Number Non-conservation in Chiral Gauge Theories

چکیده
We study how fermion number conservation fails in fermion number preserving regularization schemes. We show that the fermion number have to be carried by the gauge field configurations with non-zero winding number in this scheme and this fermion number is not conserved in the presence of instantons. We also consider other types of regularization scheme which have different global symmetries. In particular, we point out that the fermion number is conserved in the lattice chiral gauge theories with the Wilson-Yukawa coupling. ◦ email: [email protected] 1

Overlap for 2D chiral U(1) models
Two dimensional chiral gauge theories provide a convenient testing ground for non-perturbative regularizations since they are much simpler to simulate numerically than four dimensional ones. As in four dimensions, there are anomalies in two dimensions that have to be cancelled and anomaly free theories can have global charges that are broken by topologically non-trivial gauge fields. In this ta...
متن کاملUV/IR Mixing and Anomalies in Noncommutative Gauge Theories
Using path integral method (Fujikawa’s method) we calculate anomalies in noncommutative gauge theories with fermions in the bi-fundamental and adjoint representation. We find that axial and chiral gauge anomalies coming from non-planar contributions are derived in the low noncommutative momentum limit p̃μ(≡ θpν) → 0. The adjoint chiral fermion carries no anomaly in non-planar sector in D = 4k(k ...
متن کاملChiral anomalies in the reduced model
On the basis of an observation due to Kiskis, Narayanan and Neuberger, we show that there is a remnant of chiral anomalies in the reduced model when a Dirac operator which obeys the Ginsparg-Wilson relation is employed for the fermion sector. We consider fermions belonging to the fundamental representation of the gauge group U(N) or SU(N). For vector-like theories, we determine a general form o...
متن کاملA Lattice Construction of Chiral Gauge Theories
We formulate chiral gauge theories non-perturbatively, using two different cuttoffs for the fermions and gauge bosons. We use a lattice with spacing b to regulate the gauge fields in standard fashion, while computing the chiral fermion determinant on a finer lattice with spacing f ≪ b. This determinant is computed in the background of f -lattice gauge fields, obtained by gauge-covariantly inter...
متن کاملGlobal Anomalies in Chiral Gauge Theories on the Lattice
We discuss the issue of global anomalies in chiral gauge theories on the lattice. In Lüscher’s approach, these obstructions make it impossible to define consistently a fermionic measure for the path integral. We show that an SU(2) theory has such a global anomaly if the Weyl fermion is in the fundamental representation. The anomaly in higher representations is also discussed. We finally show th...
